DOVER The Tuscarawas County Health Department identified and isolated a symptomatic member of the Dover High School football team with COVID-19. The news was sent in a letter to football players, coaches and parents on Tuesday.

Electronic whistles, face coverings and gloves may be a familiar sight on high school sports officials this fall

Bobby Sagers Jr. would like answers about officiating high school sports during the COVID-19 pandemic this school year. "My big thing is obviously the social distancing, handling the ball -- football and/or basketball and then obviously the whistle to your mouth -- talking about can you wear a mask and referee?" Sagers said. "I don't know. We're in no man's land. Will a coach have a mask on the sidelines?"

Major League Baseball is just days away from "Spring Training 2.0," and we now have a better idea of who will be with the Indians come Opening Day late next month. The Tribe on Sunday unveiled its "working roster" of 55 players that will be eligible to come up to the big league club at any time during this abbreviated 60-game season. The group will now compete in a weeks-long camp to determine who makes the initial 30-man roster when the regular season begins.

Andre Drummond to pick up option to stay with Cavs

Two-time All-Star Andre Drummond says he plans to pick up his player option that will keep him in Cleveland for another year. Drummond, who was traded to the Cavaliers by the Detroit Pistons in February, has a $28.75 million option for the 2020-21 season.

It’s official: MLB to begin 60-game regular season July 23 or 24

After weeks of wrangling, the MLB Players’ Association told MLB that players will be ready to report on July 1 for a second Spring Training. Teams will conduct a 60-game season in home ballparks, MLB said on Tuesday. Most teams will conduct their preseason training in their home cities instead of utilizing Spring Training facilities.

Ohio State to play Alabama in home-and-home football series in 2027-28

Alabama and Ohio State have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2027 and 2028, the schools announced Thursday. The Buckeyes will host the first game in Columbus on Sept. 18, 2027, before traveling to Tuscaloosa the following season on Sept. 9, 2028.

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that on Friday, June 19, the organization will begin observing Juneteenth as an annual paid holiday. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is an American holiday commemorating June 19, 1865—the date in which Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced that the Civil War had ended and all those still enslaved were free.
