The Akron Board of Education reversed two earlier decisions, and voted to allow contact and non-contact sports to proceed in the district. The 4-to-3 vote Monday evening also allows the resumption of practice and limited performance of high school marching bands.
The Cleveland Browns have been dealing with a laundry list of injuries since training camp kicked off last week but the team was dealt perhaps its biggest blow yet when the MRI results were revealed for rookie safety Grant Delpit who was carted off the field at camp on Monday afternoon. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Delpit suffered a torn Achilles tendon during practice. Rapoport reported that Delpit's season is likely over before it could even get started.
The Browns have signed former Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith, per a club announcement. Terms of the deal are not yet known, but it’s likely a one-year deal for the veteran linebacker.
The NBA draft lottery was delayed three months. The Minnesota Timberwolves are certainly feeling like the wait was worthwhile. The Timberwolves won the lottery Thursday night, giving them the No. 1 pick. The lottery was conducted virtually because of the pandemic, with NBA officials doing the actual draw in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona will miss his team's three-game series against the Pirates, which begins Tuesday night. General manager Mike Chernoff said Francona will have a "scheduled procedure" to address a gastrointestinal issue. Francona also sat out seven games Aug. 3-9 because of the ailment. The Indians are hopeful Francona will be back in the dugout Friday night in Cleveland for the opener of a three-game series against the Tigers.

During a testy meeting Friday, Cleveland Indians players scolded teammates Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac for breaking protocol and going out in Chicago, and at least one player said he would opt out of the season if the two remained on the active roster, sources familiar with the meeting told ESPN.
The Cleveland Indians optioned struggling outfielder Oscar Mercado to their alternate training site after Sunday's 8-5 win over the Tigers, the team announced Monday. Mercado, 25, is hitting just .111 with three RBIs and has a .278 OPS in 45 at-bats this season. He has started in the outfield for 13 of the Indians' 22 games.
