January 30, 2026

Louisville City Schools is pleased to announce Matt Furino as the new Head Football Coach at Louisville High School, following Board of Education approval this morning.

Coach Furino brings more than 30 years of experience in education and athletics, including a highly successful career as a head football coach, teacher, and athletic leader. During multiple tenures as Head Coach at Field High School, Furino recorded 108 career victories, led teams to league championships, guided the program to its first playoff appearance and first playoff win, and earned several Coach of the Year honors, most recently in 2024.
Furino is widely respected for building programs centered on character, accountability, and community. As a longtime high school mathematics teacher, former athletic director, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader, he brings a student-first approach to athletics and is committed to continuing the strong foundation and groundwork already in place at Louisville High School while helping the program move forward.

“I have great respect for the work that has been done here,” Furino said. “My goal is to continue building on that foundation, invest in our student-athletes, and create a program that competes hard, represents Louisville with pride, and develops young men for life.”

Athletic Director Terrie Horn said Furino’s experience and leadership made him a strong fit for the Leopards.

“Coach Furino understands what it takes to build and sustain a successful program,” Horn said. “He values the groundwork that has already been laid and brings the experience and vision to help take the program to the next level.”

Superintendent Michele Shaffer added that Furino’s background as an educator was a key factor in the district’s decision.

“He understands that athletics are an extension of the classroom,” Shaffer said. “Coach Furino’s commitment to character, teamwork, and excellence aligns well with our district’s mission.”

Coach Furino will begin transitioning into his role immediately and looks forward to meeting players, families, and the Louisville community in the coming weeks.
