Like expecting parents, the Cleveland Indians are trying to settle on a name.

It's proving to be a tedious, testing process.

The team said Thursday it now has a final list from an initial pool of nearly 1,200 entries. It is vetting the possible team names for legal purposes after months of research and discussions with fans.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Zach Plesac is on the injured list with a non-displaced fracture of his right thumb -- a relatively normal thing for a pitcher to suffer in the course of his job. The thing is, according to Indians manager Terry Francona, Plesac didn't get hurt fielding a comebacker or throwing too hard; he fractured his thumb by "rather aggressively ripping off his shirt." Seriously.

The Indians' struggling offense will be without cleanup hitter Franmil Reyes for between five and seven weeks because of an internal oblique strain.

Perry High School has a new Head Football Coach.  Assistant coach, Zach Slates, who played his high school football at Perry, was approved by the Perry Board of Education.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Dayton and the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Monday that the OHSAA girls and boys basketball state tournaments will be hosted at UD Arena for the next three years. Doug Ute, OHSAA Executive Director, and Scott DeBolt, Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of Dayton and Executive Director of UD Arena, made the announcement Monday and will hold a press conference at UD Arena Monday afternoon.

The year is 2021 and the Cleveland Cavaliers are signing Anderson Varejão back to their roster for the rest of the season, according to Shams Charania, The Athletic.

The Browns on Thursday selected Northwestern CB Greg Newsome II with the No. 26 pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Newsome, a 6-foot, 192-pound Chicago native, was a first-team Big Ten selection and a third-team All-American after a 2020 season in which he allowed just a 31.6 percent completion rate to throws in his direction, per Pro Football Focus. In a shortened season, Newsome led the Big Ten with 10 passes defensed and did not allow a completion on third down. He recorded his first career interception in Northwestern's 17-7 upset victory over No. 10 Wisconsin.

Cavaliers forward Larry Nance Jr. broke his right thumb in Sunday's loss at Washington and likely will miss the remainder of the season.
