PEORIA, Ariz. -- In his first start of the spring, Carlos Carrasco felt strange seeing some familiar faces stepping into the batter’s box sporting Mariners uniforms.

In Cleveland’s 16-2 victory over Seattle at Peoria Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Carrasco allowed two runs on three hits, including two homers, and fanned four batters over three innings. Outside of the two fastballs that he left over the plate that resulted in the two long balls, Carrasco was pleased with his first outing.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Khalil Iverson had a career-high 22 points and 14 rebounds as No. 21 Wisconsin survived Ohio State's second-half rally and won 73-67 in overtime on Sunday.

Wisconsin (22-9, 14-6) led by as many as 23 points early in the second half. But Ohio State (18-13, 8-12) outscored the Badgers 27-5 over the last seven minutes of regulation to force overtime.

Green slows down to move past Boardman, advance to district final

CANTON There is something painfully beautiful about the slow scourge the Green High School boys basketball team can inflict on opponents with its patient style and skilled backcourt.

But here’s the thing: The Bulldogs must seize a sufficient lead before that can happen.

It took a while Thursday thanks to a hectic first half and a scrappy bunch from Boardman, but Green eventually got there. A much more disciplined, decisive Bulldogs squad emerged from the locker room and owned the second half, beating Boardman 61-47 in this Canton Division I district semifinal at Memorial Civic Center.

49ers don’t pick up option for veteran Garcon

Veteran wide receiver Pierre Garcon will become a free agent after the San Francisco 49ers passed on his option for 2019, the team announced Thursday.

The 49ers opted to take on $7.2 million in dead money rather than carry Garcon's cap number of $8.275 million. In two seasons with the Niners, Garcon had 64 catches for 786 yards with one touchdown while appearing in 16 games.
