One of Stark County’s premier sharpshooters has found his future home on the hardwood. North Canton Hoover High School guard Connor Newell announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic career at Mount Union University on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Newell shared the news via social media, expressing profound gratitude for the opportunity to join the Purple Raiders’ elite program.
“Blessed is an understatement,” Newell stated in his announcement. “Grateful for Coach Twiddy, the Hoover coaching staff, my whole family, and so many more people!”
A Major Addition for the Purple Raiders
By securing Newell’s commitment, Mount Union lands an exceptional backcourt asset known for his lethal perimeter shooting and ice-cold composure under pressure.
During a standout junior campaign with the Vikings, Newell established himself as one of the area’s most reliable threats from deep. He connected on 55 three-pointers while converting at an efficient 39% clip from behind the arc. His consistent production earned him second-team honors on both the All-Federal League and All-Stark County teams.
