Hornets Hire: Gunnar Tharp Named New Head Boys Basketball Coach at East Canton

EAST CANTON, OH — The East Canton Hornets have officially found the next leader for their boys basketball program. The district announced the hiring of Gunnar Tharp as the new Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach.

Tharp takes over the reigns of a program looking to establish a brand-new identity and build a sustainable, winning culture on and off the court. He fills the vacancy left by Ryan McGonagle, who recently accepted the head coaching position at GlenOak High School after a successful multi-season tenure with the Hornets.
Collegiate Experience & Culture First
According to the official announcement from East Canton AthleticsTharp brings an impressive resume highlighted by collegiate coaching experience and a strong specialization in player development.
The East Canton administration noted that they are incredibly excited about the passion and structured alignment Tharp brings to the table:

The hire carries extra significance for the local community. Tharp is accompanied by his wife, Bria, an East Canton High School graduate who is making a return to her alma mater.
