Minnesota guard Chansey Willis Jr. transfers to Kent State

April 28, 2026
Kent State head coach Rob Senderoff has landed a major piece for his 2026-27 backcourt, securing a commitment from former Minnesota and Western Michigan standout Chansey Willis Jr.
Willis, a 6’2” dynamic playmaker, announced his decision to join the Golden Flashes late Monday night via social media. His arrival marks a significant homecoming of sorts to the Mid-American Conference, where he previously established himself as one of the league’s premier guards.
A Proven MAC Star Returns
Flashes fans may remember Willis from his time at Western Michigan during the 2024-25 season. During that campaign, Willis was a force to be reckoned with, earning All-MAC Second Team honors while averaging 16.8 points and 5.8 assists per game.
His ability to penetrate defenses and create for others made him one of the most sought-after names in the transfer portal last spring, ultimately leading him to the Big Ten and the Minnesota Gophers.
