A new era is beginning for Malvern Hornets basketball, but the last name on the bench will remain a very familiar one.
The Malvern athletic department has announced that Travis Tucci has been selected as the new head boys basketball coach. Travis will succeed his father, the legendary Dennis “Denny” Tucci, who retired this past March following a storied 43-year coaching career, including 33 seasons at the helm of the Hornets.
The move, which is pending formal approval by the Brown Local Board of Education at their May 11 meeting, marks a seamless transition for one of the most consistent programs in the state.
“We are excited to recommend Travis to lead our program,” said Malvern Athletic Director Dave Tucci. “He has been an integral part of our success over the last decade, and his passion for our student-athletes and this community is unmatched.”
Travis is no stranger to the Hornet culture. A 2012 Malvern graduate and former standout player, he continued his playing career at Marietta College before returning home to join the coaching ranks. Since 2015, he has served as a varsity assistant and head junior varsity coach, playing a pivotal role in the program’s recent dominance.
He steps into the role at a historic high point. This past season, the Hornets captured the hearts of the community with their first-ever trip to the OHSAA State Final Four. With a deep roster of returning talent and a youth program he helped build through his Tri-County Basketball Club, Travis is well-positioned to maintain that momentum.
