High school football: Walsh Jesuit home opener game canceled due to illness within opponent's program

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — The Walsh Jesuit Warriors (1-0) will have to wait a little longer to play inside Conway Memorial Stadium after their home opener against Springfield was canceled Thursday night.

Walsh Jesuit announced that their game against the Springfield Wildcats (1-0) has been scrapped after an illness reportedly swept through the Springfield program.

The Wildcats have forfeited the game, with no makeup date currently scheduled. According to Walsh Jesuit athletics, ticket holders will be refunded.

“For those who purchased tickets in advance, please note that our athletic department will be working to issue refunds in the coming days,” the athletic department stated.

The Warriors, now officially 2-0, are still scheduled for what they are calling their “new home opener” on Sept. 4 against Toledo Central Catholic.
